I started work at a new school this year and I have found myself helping to run our schools Ten Tors and DofE outdoor education programs. For the uninitiated, I realise not everyone comes from the south west of England, Ten Tors is a mass participation orienteering event run in part by the British Army. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is far more long winded but suffice to say has an expedition element to it.
Whilst I am far from running this extra curricular activity, the school has found itself in the tricky situation of not having anyone qualified to actually lead the outdoor training prior to any expeditions or events. Enter muggin's. Since starting at school I have taken the obligatory CPD but unlike most CPD in the education sector this comes in two parts. Part one go to some local outdoors and be educated / terrified by far more qualified outdoor educationist. Part two complete a minimum number of outdoor activities record them and then turn up for assessment at future date to be confirmed.
Point is I need to do a lot of walking and keep some modestly detailed notes on where I have been and what I have done. Being a teacher of Computer Science I figured that's a great idea for a blog so here goes.
I won't be walking with any particular regularity but I am currently on holiday so I will probably post a few in fairly quick succession then you may never hear from me again but it's the thought that counts right?
